AOL user says "just kidding" about searching "How to kill wife" 30+ times
AOL search data released a list of 20 million searches by 500,000 users today. According to the Paradigm Shift article, and another in-depth TechCrunch article, there are "some truly scary things in this database."
Most peculiar is user 17556639. According to AOL research, his search record indicates that he may have been looking for ways to make his wife disappear, and morbid searches appeared numerous times. But the real user behind the 17556639 account says that he was "just kidding" and that people should "stop making a big deal about it."
Jason, a car repairman from South Orange, NJ, who wishes to remain anonymous, says that it was all a big hoax to see if the federal government was watching him. "You see, I had a feeling big brother was monitoring me, so I put in all those crazy search items to see if AOL would contact me. Instead, I end up all over the internet."
The event has turned into a serious topic of debate, on one side privacy rights activists who say that individuals should have the right to search for whatever they want on the internet, no matter how morbid or illegal, without having the government or corporations monitor them. Others say that this crosses the line, and there are times when one could prevent crimes from happening by screening search engines.
When asked about his wife, Jason commented: "sadly she passed away last month in a completely natural and in no way related to the fact that I searched 'how to kill my wife' and 'car crashes' online... car crash." He then returned to munching on his Steak and Cheese sandwich from a shop he found "while searching aimlessly and harmlessly on the internet." [see list of search items here]

I gotta say, though, if you're an amateur, the Internet really is a valuable resource... Where else can you get the kind of readily-accessible how-to tips you need to dispatch that miserable old bitch with the least amount of muss and fuss? We can't all be expected to be experienced murderers right off the bat, and given the paucity of useful one-on-one contact with those considered "pros", the Internet really is our best and only option...

I would like to stress out the fact that the government knows what you are doing at all times...through all the nice tools it has on it's hands: internet. and all the companies out there.
All I can do is tell you to e-mail you ISP and tell warn them that you'll take them to court if they release your information...and why keep it anyway? the only monitored information should be the e-mails and other data going amongst those that govern us...that's IT.
This is our chance to shine and turn this corrupt US government over...justice must be served...after all - we pay these smucks to keep secrets away from us
